TUTTI A TAVOLA - An Italo-Canadian Comedy!
Tutti a Tavola tells the story of the challenges faced by a typical immigrant Italian family raising children in Canada.

The main character, Pepe’ Zicca, is a hard working Calabrese man, very stubborn and set in his ways. He doesn’t understand the world of the “inglesi” nor does he want to. His wife and two teenage daughters however, along with friends and neighbors, all realize that Pepe’ has to change his old fashioned ways.

The play is set in the early 1970’s in Toronto, a time when mini skirts and long hair only contributed to the conflict between parents with strict, traditional Italian values and children who wanted to be like their “inglese” friends. The events and situations that unfold will undoubtedly touch the heart of most immigrant Italians and their families.

You may find yourself laughing and crying all at the same time!

Director’s Biography
Francesca Schembri’s work branches out in many directions: creative writing, performing arts, cinema and education. The year 2005 marks the 25th anniversary of her involvement within Toronto’s cultural scene. Founder of cultural and theatrical groups, Francesca has dedicated these years to the promotion of theatre and to the understanding of the benefits of hosting arts in our daily lives.

TUTTI A TAVOLA - Una Commedia Italo-Canadese!

“Tutti a Tavola” è una commedia dove predominano mescolanze e contrasti: mescolanza di sentimenti e di azioni, di tensioni e d’armonie, di sociologia e psicologia, di lingue, espressioni linguistiche e modi di comunicare che si alternano continuamente. Le scene si susseguono in un alternarsi di momenti seri, screzi e scherzi, di riferimenti ai valori cristiani e familiari e nell’abbassamento degli stessi. La parola viene usata come strumento di decomposizione, che nello svolgimento della trama accentua i contrasti e i crucci dei personaggi.

Niente di più comune della vita in famiglia dei Zicca: una casa dove il padre brontola, una figlia che si ribella alle condizioni impostale dal padre e l’altra, che cerca di conciliare i propri diritti di donna ‘canadese’ con l’identità di figlia italiana. Il quadro familiare include la comunissima figura della madre, che riprende, che piange, che predica e che amando compone il quadro, che tende a scomporsi mediante urti e scontri: quadro che trascende ogni nazionalità. La vita familiare in casa Zicca è frastornata da un continuo alternarsi di umori generati da crude realtà e da incertezze collettive. La famiglia in transizione è avvilita dal travaglio psicologico causato dalla minaccia della perdita d’identità e dal timore di essere forzata a ridefinire i propri parametri socio-culturali.

Se non messa in scena, una commedia rimane soltanto un inerme testo di segni e simboli: “Tutti a Tavola” non lo è mai stato. La commedia è stata portata in scena ripetutamente e gode della simpatia di istituzioni e gruppi teatrali: tuttavia, l’entusiasmo dimostrato dal cast presente, non è comparabile a nessun altro. I protagonisti si sono impegnati a rappresentare degnamente tutti i personaggi, dando vita a persone genuine, ma sforzandosi di evitare la continuazione di stereotipi. Tutti hanno fatto il loro meglio per rappresentare con sensibilità e imparzialità il travaglio, che afferra l’individuo quando è confrontato da esperienze nuove e a volte anche devastanti. Tuttavia, questi momenti sono affrontati con coraggio e sdrammatizzati con umore. Insieme Production è proiettata verso il futuro del teatro italo-canadese e il cast rappresenta la coscienza, che avvalora gli sforzi fatti da ogni italiano in Canadà.

	Pepe' Zicca - Vince Moia A stubborn, narrow minded man with very traditionalist views, originally from Calabria, always in conflict with his "munjakecka" daughter who he feels has no respect for him; he is however, very proud of his other daughter Santina.
	Concetta Menta - Dina Arcieri Pepe's wife, a seamstress who works at home, dedicated to her family, seemingly in submission to her husband. She finds herself constantly trying to subdue the outbreaks between her husband and daughter.
	Santina - Stefania Cerbino Pepe's daughter, very obedient. She arrived in Canada when she was 12 years old and speaks Italian well. She studied hairdressing but for the time being, she is working, along with Filomena, in the packing and shipping department in a glove factory on Spadina Ave.
	Venerina - Linda D'Amico Pepe's daughter, 19 years old, arrived in Canada at the age of 7. She feels very Canadian and rejects her father's traditional Italian ways. After completing high school, she has found a job as a receptionist in an insurance company where she has the opportunity to meet people of many different nationalities.
	Tullio Vincinari - Paolo Mancini Also known as "burdante" or "professo'", widowed teacher with no children; he as been in Canada for 2 years.
	Stefano Ciraco - Michael Mastandrea A very distinguished and educated young man, an engineer by trade; in love with Venerina; has been in Canada for only 2 months.
	'Nto Cico' - Livio Lucarelli A 40 year old very simple and common Abbruzzese man who works in construction; lives in the upstairs flat.
	Filomena Pernaso - Rossana Lo Faso 'Nto's wife, originally from Napoli. She is very nosy and a gossips all the time but she means well. She has taken Santina under her wing.
	Innocenza: Alexandra Lucarelli Daughter to 'Nto and Filomena, she considers the Zicca family her own.
	Don Carlo - Mario Migliacci Local priest with a hearty appetite.
	Ludovico Spilingo - Joseph Panebianco A tall, handsome young Friulano man. Santina's love.
	Maddalena - Madeline Circosta
